DreamHost Review From Our Experts

DreamHost has been selling web hosting since 1997, and it is one of the few hosts that WordPress.org officially recommends. A long track record is reassuring, but it does not tell you how fast a host is today.

In July 2026, I tested DreamHost the same way I tested 14 other WordPress hosting companies, with an identical WordPress site on a custom domain, the same tools, and the same checklist.

This DreamHost review shows you the real numbers from my hosting speed test, plus the pricing details that most reviews gloss over.

Quick Answer – Is DreamHost Worth It?

Yes, DreamHost is worth it if you want the lowest long-term hosting bill of any host we recommend. It scored 64 out of 100 on our WPBeginner Score, which places it 7th out of our 7 recommended hosts.

In our hosting speed test, the DreamHost site loaded its main content in under a second. That is fast enough for a typical blog or small business site, and every plan includes daily backups that most budget hosts skip.

The trade-off to know is that it was not as quick as our other budget picks, and the headline price requires a 4-year commitment.

You can see how DreamHost ranks against all the hosts I tested in our best WordPress hosting comparison, which uses the same data as this review.

About DreamHost

DreamHost was founded in 1997 by four college friends in California, and it remains one of the last independently owned hosting companies. Today it powers over 1.5 million websites, including more than 750,000 WordPress installs.

DreamHost website

DreamHost is also a certified carbon-neutral host, which is a nice bonus if sustainability matters to you. And while WordPress.org’s recommendation matters, I did not let it influence this review.

The verdict below comes from what my hosting speed tests actually measured.

Pros and Cons of DreamHost

Pros

  • The lowest renewal price of any host we recommend, printed right on the plan card
  • Daily backups on every plan, where Bluehost backs up weekly at a higher price
  • 25 websites, 25 GB NVMe storage, and unmetered bandwidth on the entry plan
  • Free domain for the first year with free domain privacy included – many hosts charge extra for privacy
  • Zero downtime during our 30-day monitoring window
  • Independently owned since 1997, with month-to-month billing available on every plan

Cons

  • Slower page loads than the other budget hosts we tested
  • Not the host for traffic-spike businesses (see the stress test below)
  • The headline price requires a 4-year commitment paid upfront
  • Email becomes a paid add-on after a 3-month free trial
  • No phone line – support is live chat and email, with paid callbacks

How I Tested DreamHost (Methodology)

I used the same testing protocol for every hosting company in our comparison. I set up an identical WordPress site with a default theme and test content, including images, on a custom domain.

Then I ran the same four tests – GTmetrix for speed and LCP, k6 for stress with 50 virtual users at the same time, a response-time test from 6 global regions, and 30 days of UptimeRobot monitoring.

Those four tests make up the performance side of the WPBeginner Score, which counts for 80% of the total. Each test carries a set weight, so no single lucky number can carry a host.

The other 20% of the score comes from value. For that part I look at what the plan really costs and gives you in return – the intro price, the renewal price, how many sites and how much storage you get, the plan limits, and the quality of support.

The full methodology, the exact weights, and every host’s raw numbers are in our best WordPress hosting guide.

DreamHost Performance Test Results

Below you can find my full DreamHost speed test results.

Speed Test – 986 ms LCP

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures how quickly the main content of a page appears. It is the speed number that Google’s Core Web Vitals care about most.

My DreamHost test site showed its main content in just under one second, and the full page finished loading in 1.5 seconds.

DreamHost speed test result in GTmetrix

I will be honest about this number. A load time around one second is fine for a starter site with no optimization.

However, when I tested other popular hosts, the median LCP was 659 ms. Among the budget hosts, Hostinger was the quickest at a similar price.

So DreamHost does not win on raw speed in our data. It competes on price and limits instead, which the pricing section below covers.

Server Response Time – 658 ms Global Average

Speed test tools load the whole page with images included, but that is only one part of the performance. To see raw server speed, I also measured time to first byte (TTFB) from data centers in 6 regions around the world.

The heading above shows DreamHost’s average across all 6 regions.

DreamHost global response time test

Response times were good in the US and Canada, and slower in the other regions. Our test site ran in DreamHost’s default US location, so this pattern makes sense.

If your audience is mostly in North America, DreamHost’s response speed will serve you fine. If your audience is global, DreamHost does not include a CDN on these plans, so I recommend adding Cloudflare’s free CDN to serve content from locations closer to your visitors.

Stress Test – 245 ms P95 Response

To see how a host behaves under a traffic spike, I send 50 virtual users to the test site with K6 by Grafana Labs and record the P95 response time. P95 means 95% of all requests finished faster than that number.

DreamHost held a 245 ms P95 response, and not a single request failed. The site stayed up through the whole run.

DreamHost stress testing result

Still, that number is the weakest under-load result of the hosts we recommend.

In practice, a quarter of a second under 50 simultaneous visitors is still fast for a typical blog, portfolio, or small business site. Most new websites never see 50 visitors in the same moment.

You should care about this result if your business depends on traffic spikes. If you are planning a store with sale-day rushes or content that attracts press mentions, then a managed host like Levamo is built for exactly that load.

Uptime – Zero Downtime Over 30 Days

I monitored the DreamHost test site with UptimeRobot, checking every 5 minutes. Over the 30-day window, it recorded 100% uptime with no incidents.

DreamHost uptime monitoring

DreamHost goes further than most hosts here, and its uptime guarantee promises zero downtime where most budget hosts only promise 99.9%. It backs that promise with multiple data center locations, redundant cooling, emergency generators, and constant monitoring.

In our monitoring window, DreamHost lived up to its own promise.

How DreamHost Compares to Other Hosts We Tested

The speed test numbers on their own do not give you the full picture. Here is how DreamHost performed compared to other similarly priced hosts from our comparison, all tested with the identical setup.

HostLCPGlobal responseUptimeIntro / renewalWPBeginner Score
DreamHost986 ms658 ms100%$1.99 / $7.9964 / 100
Hostinger659 ms227 ms100%$2.69 / $10.9988 / 100
Bluehost933 ms599 ms100%$2.99 / $9.9969 / 100
SiteGround608 ms369 ms100%$2.99 / $17.9975 / 100

The WPBeginner Score weighs performance at 80% and value at 20%. DreamHost’s 64 reflects exactly what you see above – it trails the group on speed, while its value is the strongest of the four.

DreamHost has the lowest renewal price of the group, so it costs the least over the long run. It is also the only one of these four that includes daily backups at the entry price, where Bluehost backs up weekly.

To see the full rankings, and the raw data for every host we tested, check out our best WordPress hosting guide.

DreamHost’s Infrastructure and Technology

Most other DreamHost reviews skip what runs under the hood, and I believe it is worth highlighting.

Storage – every plan runs on NVMe SSD storage, which is the faster generation of SSD. DreamHost says NVMe delivers up to 10 times faster load times than older SATA drives.

Control panel – DreamHost built its own control panel instead of licensing cPanel. You manage domains, databases, email, SSL, and backups from one place, and advanced users still get a full Unix shell.

Data centers – DreamHost serves shared and WordPress hosting from its US data centers in Ashburn, Virginia and Hillsboro, Oregon. Its newer Amsterdam and Singapore locations mainly serve its cloud and VPS products, so plan on a CDN if your audience is global.

Security and backups – every plan includes unlimited free SSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt, daily automated backups, and on-demand performance scans. Domain privacy comes free with the free domain, which many hosts sell as a paid extra.

Developer tools – you get SSH access, crontab, raw log files, MySQL databases, PHP 8, and support for Rails, Python, and Perl. That is more backend freedom than most budget hosts allow.

DreamHost Hosting Plans and Pricing

DreamHost offers shared web hosting, managed WordPress hosting, VPS, cloud, and dedicated servers. For most readers of this review, the three shared Web Hosting plans are the relevant ones.

PlanWeb Hosting LaunchWeb Hosting GrowthWeb Hosting Scale
Intro price (4-year term)$1.99/mo$3.49/mo$7.99/mo
Renews at$7.99/mo$8.99/mo$19.99/mo
Websites2550100
Monthly visits~40,000~200,000~400,000
Storage25 GB NVMe50 GB NVMe100 GB NVMe
Email20 mailboxes (3 months free)40 mailboxes (3 months free)60 mailboxes (3 months free)

The honest catch is the term. The intro prices above come with our link on a 4-year term, and you pay the full term at checkout.

On DreamHost’s public pricing page, the same Launch plan on a 1-year term costs $2.89 per month and renews at $10.99 per month. If you would rather not commit at all, every plan also offers monthly billing at a higher rate.

I like that DreamHost prints the renewal rate right on the plan card instead of hiding it in fine print. Whatever term you pick, you know what year two costs before you pay.

All plans include daily backups, unmetered bandwidth, unlimited free SSL, a free starter website, and a free domain for the first year on any 1-year or longer term. All plans also come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

DreamHost also sells DreamPress, its managed WordPress line, from $14.99 per month with built-in caching, a CDN, staging, and unlimited email. Most readers should start on the Web Hosting Launch plan and upgrade only when their traffic demands it.

Free and Paid Hosting Addons

DreamHost’s headline price is honest, but a few extras start free and later cost money. Knowing these up front will save you surprise charges.

  • Free domain – free for the first year on 1-year and multi-year terms, and it includes free domain privacy protection, which many hosts sell separately. After year one, the domain renews at the standard registration rate. This is fairly standard practice across shared hosts that offer a free domain.
  • Professional Email – a 3-month free trial on every Web Hosting plan. After the trial, mailboxes start at $19.99 per mailbox per year, so budget for it if you need email at your own domain.
  • Remixer AI website builder – free for the first 30 days on Web Hosting plans. Treat it as a trial rather than a permanent freebie.
  • Refund rules – every plan comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee on the hosting itself. DreamHost issues refunds to credit card payments, so pay by card if you think you might use the guarantee.

DreamHost for WordPress Beginners

DreamHost skips cPanel entirely and gives you its own custom control panel. Websites, domains, email, databases, and backups all sit in one clean dashboard.

DreamHost dashboard

If you have used cPanel for years, expect a short adjustment period. If this is your first host, there is nothing to unlearn, and the panel covers the essentials without the clutter.

Getting WordPress running is easy. You can have DreamHost pre-install WordPress at signup, or use its WordPress install assistant from the panel in about a minute.

Two extras stand out for first-timers. DreamHost’s team builds you a free 4-page starter website, and its Liftoff AI builder can launch a personalized WordPress site in under 60 seconds.

If you already have a site somewhere else, DreamHost includes a free automatic migration plugin that moves your WordPress site over for you.

DreamHost Customer Support

DreamHost runs its support fully in-house, with no outsourcing. You can reach the team 24/7 through live chat or email tickets from the control panel.

DreamHost support dashboard screenshot

There is no phone line to call. DreamHost offers callbacks instead, but they cost extra and are not part of every plan.

To be fair, phone support is rare at budget hosting prices, and most hosts at this level stick to chat.

DreamHost’s support team has won Gold Stevie and Globee awards for customer service, and it includes people who contribute to WordPress core. That matters when your question is about WordPress itself rather than the server.

Who Should Use DreamHost and Who Should Look Elsewhere

Choose DreamHost if you are building your first website on the smallest possible budget and want the bill to stay low at renewal. You get daily backups, generous site and storage limits, and a free domain with privacy included, all from a host that has been around since 1997.

Its zero-downtime record in our monitoring backs the reliability claim.

Look elsewhere if raw speed is your priority, since Hostinger and SiteGround both beat DreamHost in our tests. The same goes if you want cPanel, need phone support on an entry plan (SiteGround), or run a high-traffic store that needs proven performance under load, where Levamo is the stronger pick (see our full hosting comparison).

Final Verdict – Is DreamHost the Right Choice for You?

DreamHost is perfect for beginners who want the lowest long-term hosting bill without giving up daily backups or generous limits. It has earned trust since 1997 by keeping its pricing plain – the renewal rate sits right on the plan card, and every plan offers monthly billing.

My verdict – if budget decides your hosting choice, visit DreamHost and start on the Web Hosting Launch plan. If speed is your deciding factor, our best WordPress hosting comparison shows which host won each category on the same tests.

FAQs About DreamHost

1. What are the disadvantages of DreamHost?

Based on our tests, the main ones are page loads that trail our other budget picks and softer results under sustained traffic. On the billing side, the headline price needs a 4-year commitment, email becomes a paid add-on after a 3-month trial, and there is no standard phone support.

2. Is DreamHost good for WordPress?

Yes. DreamHost is one of the few hosts WordPress.org officially recommends, and its support team includes WordPress core contributors.

You get a WordPress install assistant, a free automatic migration plugin, and daily backups on every plan.

For heavier WordPress sites, its DreamPress line adds managed features like staging and a built-in CDN.

3. Is DreamHost good for beginners?

Yes. The custom control panel is clean, DreamHost’s team builds you a free starter website, and 24/7 chat is there when you get stuck.

The main adjustment is that there is no cPanel, but most beginners adapt to the dashboard quickly.

4. Does DreamHost use cPanel?

No. DreamHost built its own control panel instead.

You can still manage MySQL databases, change PHP versions, install WordPress in one click, and control SSH and FTP access, so you lose the familiar layout rather than the features.

5. Can DreamHost handle high traffic?

DreamHost rates its shared plans for 40,000 to 400,000 monthly visits, and bandwidth is unmetered, so a busy month never triggers overage fees. In our stress test, the site stayed up with zero failed requests at 50 concurrent users.

For a business built on traffic spikes, such as a store with big sale days, a managed host like Levamo is the safer pick.

6. Which is better, Bluehost or DreamHost?

On our identical tests, the speed difference was small – Bluehost loaded at 933 ms, just 53 ms ahead of DreamHost. DreamHost costs less over the long run and includes daily backups, where Bluehost backs up weekly.

Bluehost counters with the simplest setup we have seen and phone support on its higher plans. Pick DreamHost for the budget, and Bluehost for the most hand-held start.

7. Which is better, DreamHost or SiteGround?

SiteGround was faster in our tests, loading at 608 ms, and it includes phone support on every plan. However, it renews at $17.99 per month, more than double DreamHost’s renewal rate.

Choose SiteGround if speed and support matter more than cost. Choose DreamHost if the long-term bill decides.

8. Where are DreamHost’s servers located?

DreamHost’s main data centers are in Ashburn, Virginia and Hillsboro, Oregon, with headquarters in Brea, California. Its newer Amsterdam and Singapore locations mainly serve its cloud and VPS products.

Our test site ran in the default US location, which is why North American response times were strong while other regions lagged. A CDN closes most of that gap for global audiences.

9. Can I install WooCommerce on DreamHost?

Yes, you can install WooCommerce on DreamHost’s web hosting and VPS plans. A new store with modest traffic will run fine on the shared plans.

As your store grows, plan to move to managed hosting, because stores are harder on a server than blogs.

  1. My questions were answered right away, as in the past. That’s why I stay loyal to Dreamhost.

  2. We use Dreamhost for a simple WP website and a few mailing lists (using their mailman interface) . It’s very inexpensive, so I have little reason to complain. There has been the occasional email issue (stuck mail because of a hung process on the mail server or similar) and the occasional slow WP site. Tech support has been good, competent, and responsive, if sometimes a bit slow to reply to a submitted problem. Good value, I say.

  3. My web identity was hacked and all my copyrighted material was stolen and hosted on DreamHost. Well, they did respond to my issue quickly, but provided very little help other than to tell me to Google how to file a formal complaint. I did, and wrote a formal letter demanding the illegally used content be taken down, however, as a hosting company I feel that DreamHost should have a system already in place for dealing with this huge internet issue.

As a person who had a legal violation against me, it should be EASY and EFFICIENT for me to file a complaint and my PRIVATE INFORMATION should be immediately removed from their servers. As it is, I have had to do a lot of research and work to file my compliant. I believe that all web hosts should have automatic tools for handling such issues and proving who is the real owner of the copyrighted information. Also, all web hosts should have links to legal tools that can be used against the violators of copyright law.

As it is, this is extremely hard to find. Just because Dream Host makes their living hosting websites, doesn’t mean they have no legal responsibility to the public. There is a legal precedent for this; it is called “Duty of Care” and i means that providers of services have a LEGAL OBLIGATION to make sure that the public is not harmed by their business actions. Right now, the public at large can easily be HARMED BY DREAM HOST because they do NOTHING to help protect against COPYRIGHT VIOLATIONS.

  4. We got hacked and Dreamhost saved the day by helping us deal with the fallout. The customer service and tech support was excellent. Fast, friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend them.

  5. Never seen such a quick and great customer service. Never. Online chat is a helpful service and they are there…every time you need! Great.

  6. if you are looking for big problem with your website it is your choice! there is no such worst hosting anywhere. support do nothing. but they have one their own style – at any time you may lose one of database without backup. and support simply tell you – com back later))) support tickets unanswered 48 hours. still site does not work. live chat support can only open your panel and do the same as you can))) do not use dreamhost even it is cheaper.

  7. I came to DreamHost to host a WordPress site. They are very easy to work with and their support is prompt, helpful, and professional. I would recommend them.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to learn WordPress tech info so decided to go to a more plug and play website. However, DreamHost was top notch with their guidance and support!

  8. DreamHost has provided excellent service thus far. They have been very helpful and prompt in assisting me in getting an account up and running. Customer service has been patient and courteous. One-click installs are available in the control panel, which is convenient and saves me time. Overall, a very positive experience with Dreamhost up to this point.

  9. I am currently a very peculiar problem on my DH VPS where one of my website running XenForo starts showing MySQL related errors for a small duration of time during the same time every day.

DH people of course blamed the script which is somehow causing this issue. XenForo developers blame a MySQL bug for this issue. Me? I have been offered no resolution by either parties. I am basically on my own.

I am quite happy with Dreamhost otherwise. Their backend is amazingly simple to use. Things usually just work on Dreamhost. Even the customer support excels on simpler requests.

But this particular issue… Since they offer shared MySQL servers even on VPS solutions… They are of very little help to my need. They claim that their MySQL servers are operating optimally during the time I face issue on it. Maybe it is. But my site still becomes kind of glitchy and I can do nothing about it.

I am currently working on starting a MySQL instance on their DreamCloud platform to see if an unshared MySQL server fixes my issue. I would have to do this completely on my own because well it is a non-managed service in the end.

  10. Great customer service, great service overall! I sent a help ticket and got an answer in just a few hours solving my problem. The system is set up well to as to not insult anyone but also provide the necessary information. Fabulous service.

  11. After several years of being customer of DreamHost, in one occasion and tried to switch to another company but the technical support team solve my problems early in most cases, so today I see no reason to change, I remain with Dream Host, and very satisfied.

  12. Our non-profit is so grateful to have dreamhost services and their support. It took quite awhile to learn the control panel and WordPress as this was our first website, but the dreamwiki and support tickets always helped resolve questions and issues. Thanks again so much for your support Dreamhost, we are forever grateful!! :)

  13. I have been using Dreamhost for 3 or 4 months and overall I am satisfied with their service. They offer a reasonable cost for a reasonable service and glad I am using their service. I use Tomcat which they clearly will tell you that it is not supported, but will give you sudo root access so it can be installed. I have been able to setup and use Tomcat with minimal issues, but they are not very good about helping in general when the word Tomcat is used in a sentence. The standard reply was we don’t support it even if you are not really needing a solution to Tomcat. Even though they have a knee jerk response the overall service and they will try and help if you prod them to help. I am overall glad that I chose Dreamhost and would recommend them using Tomcat, but be prepared to dig in and figure out solutions to minor issues that may arise without much help.

  14. I had a problem setting up my site, but the DreamHost support team helped me set it the way I wanted it. Great job.

  15. I’ve had my website at one host or another for fifteen years. I’m no server expert, so whenever I have to move and set up at a new host, I’ve got to brush-up on my FTP, MySQL, PHP and all that all over again. And I get just as nervous and anxious as any newbie with their first site. DreamHost support answered my questions quickly and patiently. Setting up was easy. And I must say, their Wiki and Forum are great places to research your questions and allay your fears. I highly recommend DreamHost.

  16. I have had access and received tech support for two years until the most recent incident. When i need some tech support this week, I suddenly did not have the right email. After going back and forth with various representatives to try and determine if I was authorizes to make changes, i got some helpful advice. my site was down for three whole days during a very busy time. Not good enough.

  17. I had a question regarding my renewal for my non-profit organization’s website being hosted by Dream host. Their response was fast and made my day. Thanks Dreamiest!!!

  18. For about 5 years I had a hosting service that was rude, condescending, and problematic. I was afraid to change hosts because I had never moved a WP site before and didn’t want to deal with complications. What’s the saying again? “When the pain of remaining where you are becomes greater than the pain of making a change, it’s past time to make the change.”

I’m a huge fan of Dreamhost. Seriously. I didn’t know hosting could be so good. I had a WP problem last week that I thought was surely out of range of what they offer for support, but I had been trying to fix a login issue for a couple of hours and had only made things worse. Using Live Chat, Dreamhost helped me fix the problem in about 2 minutes. TWO MINUTES.

    I’m a fan.

  19. I had a great experience with the customer chat. My issue was resolved within the first 5 minutes of talking to the rep. My old hosting site would either, A. take over a weeks to respond or B. not respond at all. A+ service.

  20. So I could not get an answer from the Chat support

they suggested I open a ticket and wait for a response

the ticket promise that the reply would be forthcoming in 24 hours

the ticket was responded to 1 week later

the respondee suggested that if the problem occurred again to contact chat support when the problem manifests again

the problem did not get solved at the point you see!

so the next time it occurred – I contacted the Chat support who were very cheerful! and cheerfully suggested I open a ticket to get a more advanced analysis

4 days after that I got a reply from the ticket saying that the RAM automatically uprates to take account of the 503 errors which keep occurring and cheerfully suggested that I contact Chat Support when the problem occurs again…..

sure enough when the problem occurred I contacted Chat support – who said that they did not really know much about Wordpress set ups and he would “reach out” to that department and would I mind terribly opening up a ticket to get a more expert reply…….

Now there is a moral to this tale…..but I really ought to open up a ticket to get the answer to that….

  21. Most of the Hosting Services won’t reply for the queries soon. The person has to wait few days for answer from them. I really satisfied with DreamHost support system and their way of response in short time.

    Keep it Up…! Thank You…!

  22. I’ve been with DreamHost for years, and have never had an issue! Super pleased with them and how helpful they are. I love their “chat support” feature. I’ve gotten step by step guidance from their staff when I wasn’t sure how to do something on my own. All in all, super happy with DH. I’ve never had a problem :).

  23. Dreamhost responded the next day to my question in a way that enabled me to solve a problem
I didn;t need to have because I learned of built-in Dreamhost tools that did the job of an app that had become a nuisance.

  24. I really like Dreamhost! My sites got hacked a few years back due to a WordPress vulnerability. They worked with me to get everything patched up. I never expected them to support my code, but just host it. But they went way out of their way to help me.

I have about 5 VPS as well. They work well. Super fast with SSD’s.

  25. I have run a small web design and IT company for fifteen years and have used a lot of different hosts, but Dreamhost consistently gives good service and continuously improves. They recently moved all my sites over to an SSD based shared server. which makes my Wordpress sites faster. They have a wiki which answers lots of questions if you are a self-study type of person.

They have paid phone support and free email support, which, for the little I pay per month, is the way it should be. My experience with Dreamhost has been 10 plus years and yes, they have gone through growing pains, but when things are not working, most times they are already aware of the issue and posting status updates (i.e. status.dreamhost.com). It was the transparency that first drew me to them (because every host has problems) and in large part, what keeps me. I don’t care if they have problems, as long as they are fixing them. They also work hard to keep spam from getting their outgoing email IP addresses black listed, something that other hosts regularly fail to do.

I wasn’t paid for this feedback and was just happy recently when they randomized a client’ email password because it looks like it had been compromised.

  26. Was having Issues with my Host, Decided to move to Dreamhost, Paid for their Most Expensive Dedicateed Hosting Package and I was given the Login Details after many hours (Was Pissed), The Login came after 48hrs and then I contact them asking them to help me Migrate from my Present Host to Dreamhost, I was told that they can’t help me with their Migration.. Even if am to do it myself, their Admin Panel is not Friendly.. I have never heard it from anywhere, Any Host will gladly help their Customer move their Content. I Immediately dislike Dreamhost.. I requested for a Refund and I got back my Money 4 days after… I won’t come near them again.

  27. The Dreamhost customer service team was able to quickly determine my Wordpress issue and suggest the right solution on first attempt! A+++

  28. I know Dreamhost’s guys by name, at least a dozen of top notch engineers who help me daily, nightly, every time I need anything. It’s all nonsense about nastiness. Not only engineers there are knowledgeable and prepared for any question, they’re fundamentally nice people. I brought into Dreamhost at least 20 of my freelance clients – all happy! On top of all, Dreamhost has advanced technology and consistently innovates. Wiki is excellent and to date, support – superb. Over the years, I’ve dealt with at least a few hosting companies. Dreamhost is at the top of my list for both quality of technology and service provided, and, trust me – I don’t have neither extra time nor tolerance for incompetence.

  29. I received assistance with my issue in a very timely manner and with professionalism and exactness to assist someone that does not usually work well with these types of things. I was satisfied with Dream Host in this situation.

  30. I am constantly impressed by Dreamhost’s technical support. Everyone I have chatted with has been very knowledgeable and always solves my problem. I especially appreciate that chat is open even late at night. Thanks a million!

  31. our site is down and the customer support executive did not bother to answer any of our questions , and quit saying that we’ve send you a mail reg this. I contacted the customer support since i could not make anything out from the mail !!

Poorest of poorest customer service from DreamHost !!!!

  32. Let me preface by saying that I’m not some payed shill. I understand that there is a cottage industry built on webhost referral bonuses.

OK, now that that’s out of the way, I think I lucked out. I say that because back when I first got started with Dreamhost, I had no prior experience to compare it with; this changed recently. I’m in the process of helping a friend migrate from another webhost that doesn’t have nearly the quality of customer service that dreamhost has.

Customers can reach Dreamhost customer service in real time using live chat. Also, they’re very understanding. They’re not pedantic or condescending — something that could turn off any noobie.

I’m on the shared server program. I’m loving the quick installs, ssh (way, way superior to ftp), and availability for using PHP, SSI, mysql, and a bunch of other stuff I don’t understand.

I give them five thumbs up.

  33. When I’m working on the fly I can always depend on Dreamiest customer service to get me quick answers. Love these guys.

  34. Dreamhost overall is a decent web host, but they are unable to provide any type of robust developer support and basically you must fend for yourself. 2 out of 5 stars

  35. After being a customer for 9 years, dreamhost is disallowing me on hosting backups.

Planning to move out and take a hosting which doesn’t have any restrictions.

  36. VPS server goes down at-least 2 times in a day. support not being helpfull, always sending same wiki articles instead of helping with actual issue.
I was forced to move from shared hosting to VPS due to timeout issues on shared hosting.
now dreamhost is forcing me to add more memory to VPS on added cost.
I am a dreamhost customer from last 6 years and now I am seriously looking for a alternative who is more transparent. I don’t mind paying more for your service at-least tell me why I am doing it ?

  37. The spiking on our VPS is down to poor server tuning issues.

It has been quite tricky to explain this to support which would be a great help – instead of blaming server loading which use an average of under 10% capacity.

  38. Gosh Darn it – dont contact the support on the week-end

    Why I hear you say?

Well lazy responses – cant be bothered to check the issues – must get back to my game of table tennis whilst the managers are away!

    slap wrist for me.

  39. We have been with Dreamhost for over 5 years and have had no problems other than those caused by ourselves, each and every time I have brought our site or emails down a quick chat on-line with Dreamhost Agents and they fix what we have done. Not only that they have also sent wiki links to pages for us to understand how things went wrong.

We have 8 domains hosted with multiple emails on each and they all run perfect.

Dreamhost deliver a great service, great support at a great price.

  40. I am completely dissatisfied because I requested a backup and it was the same files that were haqueados and support nãodeu no solution.

  41. while i like the dashboard of dreamhost, i find their technical support to be lacking and always difficult. As they try to push you to only work with them via web chat, they tend to ignore things you say and seemingly work from a manual.

If you need excellent customer service, do not go with this provider

  42. I’m a web designer and developer and I am familiar with all the major web hosts. Dreamhost is my favorite by far. The main reason is that their support is excellent. They’re good communicators, I don’t have to wait very long, and when I explain what I’m trying to do they consistently find solutions. In my experience, most other hosts have a much less skilled support staff.

Their tools are easy to use. If I don’t know how to do something I just google “dreamhost [what I’m trying to fix]” and there’s usually very clear step-by-step directions.

What it boils down to is time. I get everything done faster using dreamhost. The reason is twofold: 1. they have better systems with greater horsepower, so things just work more often the first time, and 2. they have support people who are really good at meeting me at my level to solve my problems.

They are one of the secrets to our success. I recommend them.

  43. My husband has used dreamhost for many years. When he died suddenly, the dreamhost people suddenly became nasty with totally unrealistic and unsubstantiated demands to allow my friends to continue our little community website. They were not allowed to make a payment, I can send you the list of demands that were made to me because my husband did not think about giving me power of attorney for this particular website. Among other things, they want his last will and testament brought before a judge to have it certified in order to keep our little community alive.
I cannot deal with those demands, am too busy putting my life back together after my loss.
I have never, ever come across a bunch of people less caring than this so-called support team!
I would never recommend them to anybody.

    • yes… such a nasty team. They think they’re above every other co. in this universe, even though there are millions of web hosting Cos that do provide good services !!!
